TLV JH7.2R-B free float steam trap with thermostatic bimetal air venting. Designed for medium-to-large process equipment, featuring cast steel construction, 46 barg max pressure, and inline repairability.

TLV JH7.2R-B is a reliable and durable cast steel free float steam trap for use on medium-size and high-pressure process equipment. The inline repairable steam trap features a thermostatic bimetal air vent valve that automatically vents air for rapid startup. It is suitable for a wide range of applications with pressures up to 46 barg.
The self-modulating free float provides continuous, smooth, low-velocity condensate discharge as process loads vary, while a constant water seal design ensures a steam-tight seal even under low-load conditions. A built-in screen with a large surface area ensures extended trouble-free operation, and its inline access to internal parts simplifies cleaning and reduces maintenance costs.
DANGER
NEVER apply direct heat to the float. The float may explode due to increased internal pressure, causing accidents leading to serious injury or damage to property and equipment.
WARNING
Install properly and DO NOT use this product outside the recommended operating pressure, temperature and other specification ranges. DO NOT use this product in excess of the maximum operating pressure differential. Such use could make discharge impossible. Wait until the internal pressure equals atmospheric pressure and the surface of the product has cooled to room temperature before disassembling or removing the product.

INFO
Installation, inspection, maintenance, repairs, disassembly, adjustment and valve opening/closing should be carried out only by trained maintenance personnel.
Piping Arrangement:
Operational inspections should be performed at least twice per year.
| Parts Inspection Procedure | |
|---|---|
| Body, Cover(s) | Check inside for damage, dirt, grease, oil film, rust or scale |
| Gaskets | Check for warping or damage |
| Bimetal Plate | Check for damage |
| Air Vent Valve (and Seat) | Check for damage |
| Screen(s) | Check for clogging, corrosion or damage |
| Float | Check for deformation, damage, oil film or water inside |
| Orifice Opening | Check for rust, scale, oil film, wear or damage |
TIP
Tighten cover nuts to 150 N·m (24 mm across flats) and orifice to 350 N·m (38 mm) for the JH7.2R-B model. Orifice plug should be tightened to 700 N·m (46 mm).
| Problem | Cause | Remedy |
|---|---|---|
| No condensate is discharged (blocked) | Float is damaged or filled with condensate | Replace float |
| Orifice, screen or piping are clogged | Clean | |
| The bimetal is damaged | Replace bimetal | |
| Operating pressure exceeds max specified, or insufficient differential pressure | Compare specs and actual conditions | |
| Steam locking has occurred | Blowdown through bypass or close inlet valve and allow cooling | |
| Steam is discharged or leaks (blowing) | Rust and scale accumulated around valve seat or under float | Clean |
| Orifice is damaged | Replace orifice | |
| Float is deformed or coated with scale | Clean or replace float | |
| Trap installed above maximum allowable inclination | Correct installation | |
| Vibration of trap | Lengthen inlet piping, fasten securely | |
| Bimetal air vent valve surface/seat has build-up or scratch | Clean or replace bimetal/seat | |
| Steam leaks from other places | Deterioration or damage to gaskets | Replace gaskets |
| Improper tightening torque for cover | Tighten to proper torque | |
| Float frequently damaged | Water hammer occurs | Examine piping for water hammer causes |

Capacities are based on continuous discharge of condensate 6 °C below saturated steam temperature. A recommended safety factor of at least 1.5 should be applied.
